AI Screener validates available Content Credentials and native file facts offline, distinguishes trusted signatures from unverified claims, and treats missing provenance as a limitation rather than a verdict.
Native file parsing
Format-specific parsers inspect JPEG, PNG, and WebP structure before metadata is interpreted, helping distinguish a valid file from an untrusted filename.
Metadata forensics
ExifTool and native parsers expose capture and editing context with redaction-conscious reporting. Normal editor metadata is not treated as fraud.
C2PA Content Credentials
Offline C2PA verification reports manifest availability, signature validity, and binding state separately so an unverified claim cannot look trusted.
Local intake receipt
A deployment-signed receipt preserves local upload facts after custody begins. It documents AI Screener's handling, not original camera capture.

Does absent C2PA metadata mean a file is fake?
No. Many legitimate captures, editors, and platforms do not preserve Content Credentials. Absence is neutral and reduces available provenance coverage.
Does a valid Content Credential prove the scene is true?
No. It can support a chain of assertions and file binding, but it does not prove every real-world claim about the scene.
